Bolgheri wine

Bolgheri – cradle of Italian wine culture, unique terroir, whose fame is based on the great wines of the world of international varieties.  Phenomenon of Italian winemaking in the 1970`s was called Super Tuscan wines.  Super Tuscan wines referred to wines produced in Tuscany, but not in accordance with the traditions and rules prescribed by the laws, using international grape varieties.

It all started with Tenuta San Guido . More than 60 years ago he planted a small amount  of Cabernet Sauvignon. He dreamed of Bordeaux-style wines and began to grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc on stony soils. Until 1968, the wine was consumed privately , but from then on they decided to sell it also. The owner was married into the Antinori family, which in itself is an Italian wine company . A skilled oenologist was called within the family. His task was to make the first wine that was named Sassicaia . The wine was improved year by year until in 1978 echoed throughout the established wine world . In a blind tasting in London in 1978 , Sassicaia beat all of its competitors , including top wines from Bordeaux. Such an event does not go unnoticed , it can hardly compare with the legendary Paris Tasting . After paving the way for the concept of Super Tuscans . Normally Super Tuscan wines declassified as IGT wines, but exactly Sassicaia has received special status and must be sold its wine as Bolgheri DOC .

Today, Tenuta San Guido among the leading manufacturers in Italy. Sassicaia is still a world champion and priced accordingly. But Antinori and Angelo Gaja ‘s top profiles , both of which produce small miracles in Bolgheri .
