What to drink with grilled salmon?

grilled salmon foor pair

Grilled Salmon is a meaty and oily fish. Grilling it will give smoky flavors. Wines with high acid will cut the strong oil flavors  and bring up the all rich flavors of the salmon.

Recommended Wines

  • Pinot Noir
  • Chardonnay
  • Beaujolais
  • Pinot Gris
  • Sparkling wine

I make grilled salmon frequently. I usually season with a brown sugar sauce. I can say firsthand that a nice Pinot Noir pairs very nicely. I think a Chardonnay pairs nicely when I season with more of a soy sauce based sauce.

I really like the suggestion of a nice pinot noir with salmon. Even though I love red wines, I typically lean toward white wines with salmon since it’s a seafood course. I’m looking forward to trying your suggestion next time I make salmon. Yum!

It’s not on the list but I really enjoy Sake with salmon. I usually drink my Sake hot and I find it’s a great match with salmon. My first experience with Sake was when dining out at Japanese restaurants. I think sake goes great with sushi of course however I also find it goes well with a lot of the cooked dishes, particularly with grilled salmon.

If not going the Sake route then Pinot Noir has always been my pick for grilled salmon. If I’m doing a baked salmon with lemon and herbs then I would likely go with Pinot Gris. Sparkling wine also sounds like a great choice.
