Piedmont [Piemonte] Wine Region

Piedmont, a prestigious wine region of Italy, is almost exclusively identified with the production of great red wines, but we often forget that in this region also produces excellent white wines and sparkling wines too.  (Piemonte means “at the foot of the mountain”). It situated in northwest Italy

 

Red Grapes

NEBBIOLO High tannin, dry, powerful, perfumed and high complexidity wines. [notification type=”info”]Important appelations are Barolo and Barbaresco

BARBERA High acid, low tannin and floral wines.[notification type=”info”]Important appelations are Barbera d’Alba, Barbera d’Asti, Barbera del Monferrato

DOLCETTO Higher in acid and lower in tannin than Barbera. [notification type=”info”]Important appelations are Dogliani, Dolcetto d’Alba, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba

 

White Grapes

MOSCATO BIANCOVery floral, medium acid and alcohol. Usually used for sparkling wines in Asti  “Moscato d’Asti”

ARNEISMedium body, high in acid. It can also be used to produce of Roero DOC and Langhe DOC wines.

CORTESE Medium body, medium acid, semi aromatic wines. Gavi DOCG wines made from Cortese grapes.
